A Virtual CISO is a term synonymous with the term fractional CISO, which means a high qualified Chief Information Security Officer that you share with other companies. There are several reasons to hire a CISO in this way:

5. Learning; cybersecurity is dissimilar from sales and marketing func. ions. It is actually best when professionals in your company are sharing best practices with others at other companies, even your competitors.  Cybersecurity is a technical job that focuses on emerging threats and attack approaches from real-life criminals.  Cybersecurity professionals must talk to each other to learn about these risks as soon as they can.  A virtual CISO will be in the know because they are overseeing many companies. They will learn fast and build modern solutions faster.  This is a competitive advantage.
6. Free tooling: internal cyber teams have a way of building their own tools to get around commercial pricing. A virtual CISO will do this, at scale. Because they work for many companies, it is in their best interest to find the best and least expensive way to get things done.  They will know the best vendors, have built tools that are free to their customers and will eliminate products that do not generate an immediate impact.
