What you’ll take away

Our point of view

Examination support should make scope, evidence and resolution responsibilities clear. Chasing documents without owners makes review harder.

Key points

An organized workspace with business documents and a laptop

Preparing for a cybersecurity examination is a coordination problem as well as a technical one. Evidence requests, review procedures, control owners, and findings need to stay connected. The starting point is to confirm the applicable Part 500 context and the scope of the particular engagement with the client and its advisors.

Confirm the boundary and the request

Use the actual examination materials and current authoritative requirements to define the work. Record the entity, systems, teams, period, and procedures included in the review. Avoid assuming a generic checklist captures the specific request or that obligations are identical for every organization.

Make evidence requests traceable

Evidence coordination should make it easier to understand a control’s operation, not merely increase the number of uploaded files. Ask the responsible owner to explain records that are incomplete or ambiguous, and document limitations in the review.

Separate findings from resolution

For each finding, record the observation, proposed action, owner, and how resolution will be verified. Keep the reviewer’s comments connected to the response. A change in a tracking tool is not itself evidence that remediation has been completed.

Set the engagement’s responsibilities

VioletX’s examination-support scope can include auditor-review coordination, test procedures, evidence organization, findings tracking, and resolution follow-up. It does not replace counsel’s interpretation, the client’s regulatory responsibilities, or the examiner’s judgment. Agree deliverables, confidentiality, access, and decision owners before starting.
