Choose between a security project, a program build, and ongoing operations

Match the delivery model to the work and the capacity of your internal team—not just the size of your company.

What you’ll take away

Our point of view

Buy the delivery model that matches the work. A project, a program build and recurring operations should not be presented as the same engagement.

Key points

Business professionals collaborating around a meeting table

A small company can need a mature security program. A large company can have limited internal capacity for a specific function. Choosing support by employee count alone misses the important question: what work needs to happen, and who can reliably own it? Separate the type of work from the delivery model.

A project has a defined objective

An assessment, a scoped penetration test, an audit-readiness initiative, or a cybersecurity diligence review may fit a one-time project. Define the boundary, deliverables, customer inputs, and completion criteria. A final report can end the assessment engagement without resolving every remediation item.

A build establishes the foundation

A program-build engagement creates the operating structure: scope, ownership, controls, processes, tools, and evidence. If the customer will run it afterward, agree the handover and recurring responsibilities before the build ends. Staff augmentation is different: it adds agreed specialist capacity alongside an existing internal lead.

Management keeps agreed work moving

An ongoing engagement operates a defined worklist and cadence. It can cover security leadership, compliance operations, TPRM, recurring testing, human risk, or questionnaire support. Build-and-manage connects the initial foundation to that recurring delivery. It is not permission for unrestricted work or an unlimited testing scope.

Use one brief to connect the decisions

VioletX’s intake can suggest relevant offerings, a delivery model, and team roles from your stated goal. Review and edit that brief before submitting it. It is a starting point for a conversation—not a confirmed engagement, assigned team, quoted price, or guarantee of an assessment outcome.
